Blogmas 2024: 12/6 and 12/7

Look at these super cute 'Rudolph and Clarice' earrings!  I am thrilled to say that they were gifted to me this week and I love them!!!

Friday and today have been a whirlwind of activities!

I attended our ladies Christmas party at church on Friday night!  We all had a ball!

And on Saturday afternoon we had our church's Christmas party for the children.  It was hard to tell who had more fun, the kids or adults!  Adults, you know children really like it when we take time to play games with them, watch movies with them and just spend time with them without being distracted by other things.  It's in those moments that some of the best bonding happens!  (Pssst!  I wore the above-mentioned earrings to this children's Christmas party tonight!!!)

I received my second Christmas card in the mail today and it had a packet of a Christmas blend tea in it with the invite of 'Let's have a cup of Christmas tea!'  How neat is that!  I thought that was such a great way to up the anty on Christmas Cards!!!  I loved it and you can bet I'm going to be enjoying that cup of tea with the sender in mind, giving thanks to God for the hearts of those who look for ways to do a little extra!  One never knows when these small little things just might be the thing a person needs at just the moment they receive it.  You know God moves in mysterious ways, so if you are prompted to do a little extra for someone, go ahead and do it.  God may be using you to brighten someone else's day!  Thank you, Paula, you brightened my day today!

I hope you are enjoying your journey to Christmas as much as we are!

That's all for Blogmas days 6 and 7 ...  I'll meet you back here tomorrow for Day 8. of Blogmas 2024!

Blogmas 2024: 12/5

We received our first Christmas card in the mail today!  There's just something about receiving Christmas cards via the mail that makes my heart glad ... it reminds me of the old-fashioned Christmas' that I remember from my childhood.

(Christmas card not shown.)

When I was a child, mail delivery was a very special time ... Christmas cards, the Sears & Roebuck Christmas catalog - oh my what a treat to sit and look through and dream, and the Montgomery Ward Christmas catalog was smaller, but none the less was a pretty big event at our house as well.

We rarely got to order anything out of either catalog, but we sure could dream big; it was like getting a gift when they arrived in the mail.  Of course, then came the task of deciding who got to look at them first!!!  All of us kids wanted to be first!  There may or may not have been a tussle or two in deciding the lucky recipient!  Sharing only worked for so long as one or the other of the sharers would almost always think they were being slighted in not being able to look at each page as long as they wanted, and an argument would begin ... and both sharers would lose the privilege of looking at the catalogs!

Such sweet and precious memories from my childhood ... sadly, there are no more Sears & Roebuck or Montgomery Ward Christmas catalogs to look forward to however, those 'in the mail' Christmas Cards are still looked forward too and thought of as something pretty special at my house!

I hope you've enjoyed this little trip down memory lane with me today ... you can blame it on us getting our first Christmas card of 2024!

Sometimes, it's the littlest things that trigger the sweetest memories!

I hope you are enjoying your journey to Christmas as much as we are!

That's all for Blogmas day #5 ...  I'll meet you back here tomorrow for Day 6 of Blogmas 2024!

Blogmas 2024: 12/4

I just couldn't resist sharing this cute little gingerbread ornament.  He's not hanging on our Christmas tree, instead I tucked him in among the branches making him look as if it was his natural habitat!  I often do that with 'ornaments!'

On Monday, we hung stockings and yesterday socks ... that's not all we've hung ... how about this Christmas quilt ...

I love how this quilt drapes so perfectly as it hangs through this grapevine wreath.  It just adds such a nice touch to the door when it's closed ... which is most of the time right now with the really cold temps we're having!

I made this quilt about 3 years ago; I love the festiveness of it!  Who doesn't like Santa hats!!

One more thing before we close out today's entry ... the hunt continues for the missing Christmas aprons!

That's all for Blogmas day #4 ...  I'll meet you back here tomorrow for Day 5 of Blogmas 2024!

Blogmas 2024: 12/3

The hunt for my missing Christmas aprons continued today and once again I didn't find them!

However, I did put this arrangement together ...

those little spools were fun to make!

And hung these socks!

Little touches here and there that make our home holiday festive!

That's all for Blogmas day #3 ... not a lot, nothing big and fancy ... just simplicity in its simplest form.

I'll meet you back here tomorrow for Day 4 of Blogmas 2024!

Blogmas 2024: 12/2

I put our Christmas tree up on Friday, but that was all I got done.  Today, I delved into putting out and up a few more decorations such as ...

hanging our stockings ...

replacing the quilt that lays at the foot of our bed with a Christmas one ...

replacing pillowcases on the bed with Christmas themed ones ...

and getting my Christmas dishes out and washed up, ready for use.

(I've had these Christmas dishes for 20 years!  They were gifted to me by the ladies in a Bible class I taught at the time.)

I love these kinds of days at home, the ones where you just putter around in your home, fluffing it here and there making it not only a pleasant place, but also a mentally safe place for your family to come home too.

I still have more decorating to do (really, just some small touches to be completed), but I find by spreading it out over a few days, I enjoy the process instead of wearing myself out trying to do it all in one day.

One thing that is puzzling me though ...

I haven't found my Christmas aprons yet ... oh where, oh where have my Christmas aprons gone?  Oh, where or where can they be???  That's on my to-do list for tomorrow ... find my Christmas aprons ... along with a little more decorating!

I hope you've enjoyed today's Blogmas!

I'll meet you back here tomorrow for Day 3 of Blogmas 2024!

Blogmas 2024: 12/1

It hardly seems possible that it's time for 'Blogmas' again!  It seems that it was just a few weeks ago that we were doing Blogmas 2023, but here we are ready for Blogmas 2024!

In years past, I have done Blogmas over on A Working Pantry, but since we have our Circling the Wagons class going on over there, I moved Blogmas here, to Grandma's Got A Sewing Machine.  Truth be told, this is where it should be anyway!

What is Blogmas and why do I do it?

Blogmas is daily posts from December 1st - December 24th or as close to that as my schedule will allow, of our journey to Christmas Day!

Blogmas is a lot of work, I'm not going to kid you ... and here's why I do it ...

Why I do Blogmas?

It's no secret that I love everything about Christmas!  From the day after Thanksgiving till the last box of Christmas decor is packed away and put back in storage for the next year, I love every bit of it!   My husband and I are senior citizens who generally spend the holiday season alone.  While we do have lots of very good friends and our church family nearby, all of our family and children live far, far away.  Our children have children of their own to make holiday memories with within their own homes.  They are very thoughtful to include us in as much as possible via technology and we are so grateful to them for going beyond the extra mile to include us.

I started doing Blogmas because I had a choice, either lose myself in sorrow over what I could not change or embrace the love I have for the season and share it with others.   I chose to share my joy in the journey not only with my children and grandchildren long-distance, but with others who love the season as I do and who just might find themselves spending the holidays alone as well. I hope in some small way you get a glimpse of holiday joy through these Blogmas posts and that it spills over into your life this holiday season!

I'll meet you back here tomorrow for Day 2 of Blogmas 2024!
