What I Made this Week: 6/8/24

I finished up a second prairie style skirt this week ...

I made it the same way as the chicken skirt I made last week ...

(I updated the chicken skirt post with styling options, go back and check it out!)

I paired it with a light gray t-shirt from my closet, some jewelry, earrings and summer sandals.

The end result is a comfortable summer outfit that didn't break the bank to create and one that I enjoy wearing.  Yes, I've already worn it and will wear it many more times this summer!

Please share what you stitched up or created this week, I would love to hear what you're working on!

Until the next time,

  1. Patsi, I love your prairie skirts and the way you've styled them. I had left a comment previously but it seems to not have gone through. I hope this one does. You have inspired me to see a few for myself using what's in my stash. Previously I have been making three tiered elastic waist prairie skirts that are also pattern free and just use measurements. I also found there's a dropoff for Ryan's Case very close to home . You've inspired me to put the retro bright fabric I have to very good use . The fabric is do fun I feel certain that it will put a smile on some faces. Today we are parked in front of the TV watching "The Band of Brothers " marathon. My hands are busy embroidering feedback dish towels.Cookie

    1. Cookie, thank you! I'm still working out some of the kinks in the behind the operational scenes of things of this blog so I may have inadvertently done something wrong.

I want to do a three-tiered elastic waist prairie skirt too!

I just know the retro bright fabric will make cute pillowcases that will brighten some child's day. I'm working on using up my children's character fabrics on the pillowcases. It makes me happy to know that a sick child's head will lay on the pillowcase and that it just might bring a smile to his/or face.

I'm going to have to look up 'The Band of Brothers' as I'm not familiar with it.

    2. Band of brothers is a miniseries that Tom Hanks and Seven Spielberg made in 2001 about the D-day invasion. It was originally shown on HBO which we didn't have Today it was on Sundance, which we do have.

    3. Cookie, we don't have Sundance, but the series sounds like something we would enjoy.

  2. Just found your new blog and I’m so glad. This grandma has a sewing machine too and way too much fabric. I made some potholders a few weeks ago and I recently started 2 strip quilts.
I want to sew more too so I’ll be following you for inspiration and to cheer you on. 🧵 🪡 ✂️

    1. Rhonda, I decided that it was time to make my sewing a bigger priority. My goal is to do something sewing/created related every day. Some days it's just winding bobbins or prepping fabric or materials for a future project, but in so doing it keeps the goal in the forefront of my mind.

  3. also just found your new blog. i am also a sewer and today have been making pillowcase dresses for shoebox(operation christmas child) and africa missions. also bags for the kids in africa to carry their belongings in. they are lined with handles. it is so much fun to do them in bright or kids prints. they can also be used for putting gifts in instead of wrapping paper and then can be recycled. bonnie
